Assonic integrates screening into Trumpf's TruPrint 1000 to optimise powder processing

German-based Assonic Dorstener Siebtechnik GmbH, a screening and powder conditioning solutions company, has collaborated with Trumpf, Ditzingen, Germany, to integrate its MSS-1000 screening system with a TruPrint 1000 metal Additive Manufacturing machine, optimising powder processing and creating a closed process chain.

The system uses Assonic’s proprietary Sonic Speed Screen™ technology, which simultaneously stimulates the screens with high frequency ultrasonic and low frequency motor vibration. As a result, the AM process is not only continuously fed with high quality material, but the excess metal powder that has not been melted is recycled and can be used at almost 100%. The sieve unit works with inexpensive exchangeable test sieves from 20 µm mesh size and has a fully encapsulated sieve chamber which ensures maximum safety and cleanliness.

“Thanks to our joint solution, customers in the small parts sector will now also have a way of safe, automatic screening and reusing unmelted metal powder after the printing process,” stated Paul Tüshaus, Sales Manager at Assonic GmbH.

The integration of the sieve into the powder circuit of the AM machine also allows for the automatic monitoring and control of the protective gas atmosphere. Powder is fed into the AM machine via the glovebox of the TruPrint 1000, and a special flanged ring and lid mechanism allows the inert removal of the overflow container. Bottle-to-bottle screening is also possible.
